Do you know the term Leave No Trace (commonly known as LNT)?

Literally, it means "to leave no trace," but this refers to an environmental ethics program developed in the United States based on seven principles that teaches techniques for everyone to easily and naturally engage with nature while enjoying the outdoors and protecting the environment.

◆As a corporate partner of LNT Japan

The activities of LNT have been spreading in Japan in recent years, and LNT Japan was established in 2021. Starting in 2023, ZEN Camps also began activities as a corporate partner.

In recent years, as outdoor activities such as camping have become more popular, it is required to take actions that do not cause environmental destruction, and we believe that our mission is to convey the current issues, knowledge, and these seven principles.

In particular, "Principle 5: Minimal Impact of Campfires" was created from the idea of minimizing the impact of campfires on the natural environment.

At ZEN Camps, we recommend the following five points as manners when having a campfire.

1. Use a campfire stand that is designed to prevent the heat of the campfire from being transmitted to the ground.

2. Use a "campfire sheet" to prevent ground ignition from flying embers.

3. Use only the minimum amount of firewood and avoid excessively large campfires.

4. Burned firewood and charcoal do not return to the soil, so if there are any leftovers, do not bury them in the ground but take them back or dispose of them according to the campsite rules. It is best to burn them completely to ash if possible.

5. Use firewood that complies with the 5Ds (Dead, Dry, Down, Dinky, Distance)

We believe that each person's small awareness will protect the beautiful nature of the future.

◆Campfires that do not harm nature

The campfire stand "NT Fire Stand" that we developed this time was born from the desire to minimize damage to the ground caused by the heat of the campfire.

Since using just a firebed would directly transmit heat to the ground, we have equipped it with a "heat shield and ash catcher" that cuts the radiant heat from the campfire.

Additionally, inspired by the protective clothing used by firefighters, a heat-reflective aluminum material "heat shield sheet" is also included. This results in cutting over 70% of the heat transmitted to the ground (*1), making it a campfire stand that has almost no thermal impact on the ground.

As we are in a position that intrudes upon nature, it is of course not permissible to disturb it, and we believe that it is good manners to minimize the impact of campfires on nature when leaving.

We want to promote the activities of LNT Japan, which aims to minimize the impact of campfires on the natural environment, so that they are more widely recognized.
